Hearing about the latest Gaza rally the day before, RAIM went to show our solidarity with the Palestinian people under attack from Israel, and agitate for national liberation and against imperialism. Here are some photos from Saturday, January 24th at the State Capitol:
Many signs had messages related to the recent celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day
There were too many Amerikan flags here for our taste. We understand that the organizers want to appeal to Amerikans, but we realize one cannot hold their breath waiting for Amerikans to care.
"Women and Children are not Collateral Damage."
The flag of Venezuela. In a true spirit of international solidarity, Venezuela, along with Bolivia, broke diplomatic relations with Israel over it's war crimes in Gaza.
A flag of Bolivia made its appearance too.
The RAIM bullhorn came into good use, as some younger demonstrators started leading chants. This energized the crowd who wanted something more than the regular sign holding.
More families and youth were involved in this demonstration.
An impromptu march began, going all the way through 16th Street Mall.
We gave our megaphone to one of the youths, who led the chants all through the march. Some of the chants: "Gaza Gaza don't you cry, Palestine will never die." "1 2 3 4 Occupation No More; 5 6 7 8 Israel is a terrorist state." RAIM snuck in our "Down with all settler states, Israel and United Snakes," drawing some quiet agreement from a few.
Going back to the Capitol after a long march.
Overall it was a good action. We helped give some energy (and some amplification) to the protest, made some mall goers aware of what’s happening in Palestine, and met a lot of new people.
